The Interference Effect

Endurance-prioritized template. Two strength sessions, five endurance sessions per week. Strength work shifts to maintenance volume — higher rep ranges, shorter rest intervals, full-body circuits. Lower-body isolation work drops to preserve tissue for running load. Best suited for runners, cyclists, and triathletes who need to retain lean mass under sustained aerobic demand.
Implementation Protocol
Step 1: Define the primary performance metric. Time on feet? One-rep max? Body composition shift?
Step 2: Match the template to the metric. If two metrics matter equally, run the balanced template for one mesocycle, then reassess based on lagging adaptation.
Step 3: Track recovery markers daily. Heart rate variability, sleep quality, and morning resting heart rate indicate which system is absorbing the interference hit first. Grip strength is a cheap daily proxy for systemic fatigue.
Step 4: Reassess every 4 weeks. Hybrid programming is not static. Goal drift produces stalled progress even when compliance is high.
