The 30-gram rule originated in old nitrogen-balance studies and short-term muscle protein synthesis (MPS) measurements taken in the 1–4 hour postprandial window. The data showed a plateau in MPS response within that timeframe. Coaches and supplement brands reified the plateau into a ceiling. It was never a ceiling. It was a measurement artifact tied to a narrow temporal snapshot.

The new research, as reported, tracked protein utilization across longer windows and in subjects consuming substantially larger single doses. The findings confirm what applied physiologists have argued for over a decade: the digestive system is not a 30-gram funnel.
